(Kenora, ON.) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 16 year old Kenora youth following a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Wednesday morning.
Police were called to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Ninth Street North in front of Beaver Brae Secondary School around 8:30 am on Wednesday, October 2nd 2013. OPP attended with Kenora Ambulance. The 17 year old pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Lake of the Woods District Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver has been charged with Fail to Yield to Pedestrian under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and issued a Provincial Offences Notice for the offence
The OPP would like to remind all motorists to use caution around schools and other areas with high pedestrian traffic.
The driver of a north bound Chevrolet truck stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of McKenzie Station Road and Highway 11/17. As the driver proceeded to cross the highway, the driver collided with an east bound Ford Explorer. The Ford Explorer rolled several times and came to rest in the ditch.
The driver being the lone occupant of the truck was not injured. There were three occupants in the Ford Explorer, one being a two year old child. The driver and child were not injured. Another passenger in the vehicle was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries. The Ford Explorer sustained extensive damage while the Chevrolet truck sustained moderate damage.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck, an 84 year old male from Shuniah, was charged with Start From Stopped Position – Not in Safety contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
