TRAFFIC STOP FOR USE OF CELL PHONE LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON)- On Tuesday October 1, 2013 at 7:20 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and OPP Highway Enforcement Team (HET) conducted a traffic stop on the westbound lanes of HWY 401 at Colonel Talbot Road for a traffic related offence, involving the use of a cell phone. During the course of the traffic stop police located a quaintly of drugs.

As a result of an investigation police have charged the driver Dylan MERTZ, age 21 of Chatham, ON with:

Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine, as per Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana- under 30grams, as per Section 4(1) of the CDSA

The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in a London Court room on November 22, 2013 to speak to the charges.
