OPP Conducting Search for Missing Hunter in Remote Lake Area
(Alton Lake, On) – Sudbury OPP is currently searching for a missing person who was hunting in the Alton Lake area north of Sudbury.
On Tuesday October 08, 2013 at 7:05 pm Sudbury OPP received a call from a male using a Satellite phone advising that a member of their hunting party had not returned to a designated location.
Alton Lake is situated in a remote area of an unincorporated territory about 100kms north of Sudbury near Halfway Lake Provincial Park. There is no road access and the hunting party was flown in to the area by an aviation service. Once police received the information an extensive search begun conducted by members of the OPP Emergency Response Team along with the OPP Helicopter and OPP Canine Unit. The Rescue Coordination Centre from Canadian Forces Base in Trenton was contacted and is assisting in the search.
The male is 61 years of age and reside in Mississauga, Ontario. The search resumed this morning at daybreak and is continuing.
