(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Wednesday October 16 2013 at 1:33 pm, officers from Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, Oliver Paipoonge and Conmee Fire Departments, and ambulance responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 11/17, west of Highway 11/17 and Highway 102 intersection.
The driver of a Dodge Dakota was east bound on Highway 11/17 when the driver crossed the centre line and struck a rock cut on the west bound side of the highway.
Oliver Paipoonge and Conmee Fire Fighters had to utilize the Hurst Hydraulic Jaws and Cutters (Jaws of Life) to extricate the driver out of the vehicle. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Peter WRIGHT, 64 years of age, from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta was transported by air ambulance to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
