Taylor SOVEREIGN – Drunk Driving

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) On Thursday October 17, 2013 just before midnight officers from the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment observed a Hyundai Tiburon driving at a higher rate of speed than normal on Aspdin Road in the Town of Huntsville. The officers followed for a short distance on Old Ferguson Road and observed that the driver of the Hyundai was increasing speed. The emergency equipment was activated on the police vehicle, but the driver refused to stop in attempt to flee from the police.

After a short suspect apprehension pursuit (SAP) the Hyundai crashed into the ditch on North Lancelot Road, Huntsville. The driver and the passenger then ran from the vehicle. Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) along with Muskoka Canine was quick to conduct a track of the area and located the passenger a short distance away. The other officers assisting located the driver a short time later, and it was evident that he had been drinking.

As a result of the investigation Joshua MASSEY (19yrs) of Perry Township was arrested and charged with the following: Drive with More than 80mgs of alcohol per 100mltrs of blood, Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle,Flight While Pursued by Police Officer under the Criminal Code of Canada, along with Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Cocaine). He faces further charges under the Highway Traffic Act including Racing, Drive Motor Vehicle – no licence. He has been released with conditions and will appear in Huntsville court on November 6, 2013 to answer to his charges.

Taylor SOVEREIGN (18yrs) of Huntsville, the passenger in the Hyundai was issued Provincial Offences notices under the Liquor Licence Act and Trespass to Property Act.

No injuries were reported.
