DRIVER SUSTAINS MINOR INJURIES AFTER COLLIDING WITH TRAIN

(ADELAIDE-METCALFE TWP, ON) – On October 22, 2013 at 10:50 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a van and a train at the railroad crossing on Sexton Road between Katesville Drive and Napperton Drive in Adelaide-Metcalfe Township.

A white van travelling northbound on Sexton Road proceeded through a railroad crossing controlled by a stop sign and collided with a westbound locomotive. The driver sustained minor injuries.

The rail crossing at Sexton Road was closed for approximately two hours before the train was able to be moved. There were no concerns for public safety as a result of the collision.

The van driver, Hendrikus DORTMANS, age 46 of Adelaide-Metcalfe Township has been charged with failing to stop for stop sign at railway crossing under the Highway Traffic Act.
