(BRIGHTON, ON) – From September 29, 2013 to October 23, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating five fire occurrences in the Municipality of Brighton within town limits. One of these fires caused considerable and significant damage to a vacant residence.
OPP and Brighton Fire Department (BFD) have attended to small fires set by unknown person(s) throughout Brighton in the nighttime hours where fortunately the fires were extinguished before any further damage could be done to the properties involved.
Fires involved include a garbage can at the skate park at King Edward arena, a pile of cardboard at the rear of the LCBO building, a recycling box on Anne Street and a smoldering abandoned boat on County Road 64 which were all ignited, causing police and fire to be dispatched.
On October 23, 2013 OPP and BFD attended to a fully engulfed structure fire at approximately 11:38 pm at a vacant residence on Prince Edward Street. The entire structure was destroyed but thankfully no one was injured. Estimated damage is unknown at this time.
Police are continuing to investigate these incidents with efforts to determine if they are related.
