(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON.) The Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had hoped to use their helicopter to search the area along the Sauble River starting on Wednesday October 30th, 2013; however the helicopter was not available that date. With rain and high winds in the forecast, the helicopter is not expected to be used this week. The West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) had members deployed searching along the river banks. The OPP will continue efforts to locate the missing party to enable the family members to obtain closure in this tragic event.
(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON.) The search for the missing boater identified as 31 year old Nathan FRENCH of Acton continues on a reduced scale. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) plan to conduct an aerial sweep on Wednesday the 30th using their helicopter. The swollen Sauble River may have subsided enough to provide better search capability by this time.
French was out on the river Thursday afternoon October 24th, 2013 in a dingy he was boating for recreational purposes. He failed to arrive at a pre-arranged spot to meet his brother that evening, his dingy was found by family on the shores of the river Friday morning. Police were called to assist with the search on Friday October 25th, 2013.
OPP remind everyone that the rivers and streams are swollen and running fast at this time caution must be used when around or using these water ways. Always wear a personal floatation device when boating in these conditions.
