THEFT INCIDENTS

(Collingwood, Ontario) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding the public to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from their cars after receiving a few calls over the weekend involving incidents of thefts.

One of the incidents took place on the 1st of November 2013 shortly before midnight where a resident of Silver Crescent called police to advise of suspicious persons on the street appearing to be entering cars in the neighborhood. The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival and it was found that two vehicles were entered with a small amount of loose change stolen from the vehicles.

Another such incident was reported on Burnside Crescent in Collingwood where, sometime overnight from the 1st to the 2nd of November 2013, suspect(s) stole cash and prescription medication from a parked vehicle.

Another incident, this one taking place overnight from the 1st to the 2nd of November at a residence on Burnside Crescent, involved suspect(s) entering a residence and stealing a purse and its contents. The residents were at home at the time however did not observe anyone committing this crime.

Residents are reminded to lock not only their vehicles at all times, but also their residence’s entry points, even when at home. In the last case the residents were at home at the time with a car in the driveway however the suspect(s) still entered this house.

When locking your vehicle and leaving it unattended, remove valuables from view or, better yet, remove the valuables from the car entirely. No matter how short a time period your car will be left unattended, its long enough of a time line for a person to enter the car and remove belongings.

If anyone has information in regards to these incidents, they are asked to contact the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains O.P.P. at (705) 445-4321 or Call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (1-800-222-8477) or submit your information online at www.crimestopperssdm.com if you have any information on this crime or others.
