LOCK IT OR LOSE IT REMINDER – THEFTS IN THORNTON

(Essa Township, ON) On Sunday the 16th of November 2014 between 3:00 a.m. – 4:00 a.m. several parked motor vehicles were entered on Jamieson Court in Thornton and a number of items were stolen. Police responded to the call, and a witness was identified who provided police with descriptions of four suspects; all described as male, 13-15 years old, and wearing dark clothing. When the witness yelled out to the suspects, they fled on foot southbound on Jamieson Court.

A professional can steal your vehicle in just 30 seconds – without the key. The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) are encouraging citizens to “Lock It or Lose It”. The goal of the proactive crime prevention program is to encourage drivers to take a few simple precautions that will protect their vehicles from theft.

An unlocked door or an open window is an invitation to thieves. The “Lock It or Lose It” program and the Nottawasaga OPP remind drivers to always:

– Roll up their vehicles’ windows;

– Keep valuables out of sight;

– Lock their doors; and

– Pocket their keys.
