Victim Grants Access To Computer

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an incident at an O’Rourke Avenue, Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at approximately 10:45 a.m., police received a call from a concerned resident after an unknown male called their residence. The male advised that he was from Microsoft and that he had received an online message indicating that the resident’s computer was infected with a virus.

Access was granted to the unknown individual at which time the homeowner observed emails being deleted and various files viewed.

Computer users are reminded, that unless you initiate the call, do not allow anyone access to your computer. Don’t give out personal, banking or credit card information to anyone unless you are sure of whom you are dealing with.
