(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On Tuesday October 14, 2014 at approximately 3:39 p.m. members of the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a head-on collision on Highway 35, half a kilometer north of Highway 7A.
When officers arrived on the scene investigation revealed that the collision involved a northbound van and a southbound car. A 3rd southbound car was also involved in the collision. The male driver of the van was airlifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries while the female driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the 3rd vehicle was not injured.
The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigation unit (TCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation. The highway was closed for several hours while City of Kawartha Lakes OPP investigated.
As a result of the investigation, John HUNTER, 66 years of age, was charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
