(KENORA, ON) On Friday December 5, 2014 at approximately 10:00 am, members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17A. While speaking with the driver regarding a Highway Traffic Act offence, police determined the male and female passenger were transporting a quantity of illegal cigarettes. A search of the vehicle located a total of 710 cartons of cigarettes. The tobacco is estimated to have a value of $42, 600.
The 61 year old male and 64 year old female from Emerson Manitoba, have been charged with Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for the Purpose of Sale and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes contrary to the Tobacco Taxes Act.
They both appear in Kenora court on February 19, 2015 to answer to the charges.
