Male Charged For Misuse Of 911

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – Shortly after 4:20 am on November 1, 2014 The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call reporting an impaired driver. Officers attended the scene and an investigation revealed that the claim made was false and officers were not required.

David RIDING (27) of Atikokan has been charged criminally with Common Nuisance. He will appear in Atikokan Provincial Court on December 18, 2014 at 11:00 am to answer to this charge.

The use of 911 is a serious matter. When 911 is called, officers are immediately taken away from their current investigations and duties to respond. This can often mean officers respond from various locations with the use of emergency lights in an effort for a timely response. The misuse of 911 creates an unsafe situation for both members of the public and officers alike.

Members of the public are urged to call 911 for emergency response, whether it be police, fire or ambulance; but are urged not to misuse the service.
