3 Impaired Drivers In One Week – North Bay

(NORTH BAY, ON) – The North Bay Ontario Police (OPP) continues to be vigilant in Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) efforts throughout the year.

On December 12, 2014, a member of the North Bay OPP was conducting R.I.D.E. on Highway 531, Bonfield Township, with the following results. At approximately 9:23 p.m., police checked the status of an approaching driver. Further investigation resulted in a charge of Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) against Daniel SARAFINCHIN, age 51, of Bonfield Township, Ontario. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on December 23, 2014.

On December 15, 2014, at approximately 2:07 a.m., a member of the Powassan OPP was conducting R.I.D.E. on Highway 11, City of North Bay, when a vehicle with no headlights on was stopped. Upon further investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Kory BENOIT-JAMES, age 26, of North Bay, Ontario, was charged with numerous offences;

Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253 (1)(b) CCC, Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act (CDSA), Driving While Under Suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Novice Driver -Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero contrary to section 44.1(3) HTA, Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied By Qualified Driver contrary to section 5(1) HTA and Fail to Comply With Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) CCC. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on December 30, 2014.

On December 16, 2014, at approximately 8:42 p.m., members from the Powassan OPP were investigating a report of a disturbance in the town of Powassan. Upon arrival at the scene, police were informed that one of the involved persons in an altercation had left the scene. Eldon STORIE, age 48, of Powassan, Ontario, was located in his vehicle at his residence. Upon further investigation, he was charged with Care and Control Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253 (1)(b) CCC, Care or Control While Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) CCC and Cause a Disturbance contrary to section 175(1)(a) CCC. He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay.
