Death Investigation Update – Deceased Identified

(ONEIDA FIRST NATION OF THE THAMES, ON) – On December 21, 2014 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Oneida First Nation Police and Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for assistance at a River Road residence on Oneida First Nation of the Thames.

Police discovered a deceased male within the residence and are continuing their investigation. The deceased male has been identified as Carson IRELAND, age 66 of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation. A post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The Middlesex County OPP Crime Unit is conducting the investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Heidi Stewart of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The investigation has revealed that a firearm was involved in the incident. The suspect is described as a tall non-white male, wearing dark clothing and driving a light coloured vehicle.

The OPP remind all citizens to always be mindful of crime prevention by keeping homes and vehicles secured and to report any suspicious activity to police immediately.

A portion of River Road between Townline Road and Walker Road will remain closed for the investigation.
