(TAY TOWNSHIP, On)- Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the OPP Central Region K-9 Unit assisted by members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) attended the area of the Martyrs Shrine in Tay Township to investigate a suspicious person’s complaint received by the OPP Communications Centre at 9:15am Dec 20, 2014.
An Old Fort Road resident noted mischief to his property and contacted the OPP with his complaint when a similar complaint was also lodged by staff at the Martyrs Shrine after noting damage to Shrine property.
A search by the OPP K-9 Unit assisted by the ERT Unit resulted in a male being apprehended in connection to the mischief occurrences.
Charged is Brent GATEHOUSE, 35 years of age from Tay Township with the following offences:
– Robbery with Intent contrary to section 344(1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
– 3 counts of Mischief under $5000.00 contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
– Arson – Damage to Property contrary to section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
– Possession of a Schedule II Substance- Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
He was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
