Citizen’s Police Academy

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is looking for citizens to attend the Norfolk County OPP 5th Annual Citizens Police Academy being held in March 2015.

The academy is an opportunity for citizens to learn areas of policing and covers a wide range of topics. Chosen participants will learn and hear presentations from areas of specialty within the Ontario Provincial Police. Such topics include: Major Crime Investigation, Recruitment Unit, K9 Services, Emergency Response Unit (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Fraud Investigations, In-service Training (Use of Force), Forensic Identification as well as Technical Traffic Collision Investigations.

Participants will have the opportunity to tour the police detachment, learn about the Auxiliary Police and have a demonstration of a breath test.

Each Academy has been structured as an interactive information sharing evening, similar to a night school class. Whatever the motivation a citizen may have for attending this 9 week Academy, the end result will be a community member who better understands the challenges and responsibilities that the men and women of the Ontario Provincial Police face every day.

We are looking for mature, adult, community minded individuals who represent a wide range of ages, occupations and reasons for participating. Security checks will be completed before selection of the participants and valid photo identification is also required which should be attached to the application.

The program is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Norfolk County OPP Detachment from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The program will run every Thursday evening for a total of 9 weeks.

A graduation Ceremony will be hosted after the completion of the program.

Applications can be picked up at the front counter of the Norfolk County OPP Detachment located at 548 Queensway West, Simcoe, Ontario. Applications submitted after March 1st, 2015 will not be accepted.
