(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been advised that counterfeit United States currencies have been passed in our neighbouring communities.
The currency involved is of the $100 denomination. Several bills have been used to defraud businesses in the West Nipissing area. The suspects specifically purchased pre-paid credit cards.
Local retailers and the general public are reminded to be alert and to carefully inspect all currency to verify that it is authentic. For further instruction regarding counterfeit prevention, the “bank note” section of www.bankofcanada.ca offers valuable information.
Here are some tips if you suspect that a bill is counterfeit:
Touch the bill
tilt the bill
look through the bill
look at the appearance of each security feature carefully.
Anyone with relevant information about this fraud is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310 1122.
