Several Impaired Drivers

(COUNTY OF SIMCOE, MUSKOKA, ON.) – Between April 3 and April 7, 2015 Officer’s from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated five separate incidents of impaired driving.

On April 3, 2015 at 1:00a.m officers responded to a call about a vehicle in a ditch. Officers arrived to find a red GMC Serra pick-up in water up to the windshield. The driver of the pick-up was located near the scene by officers. The male driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Male driver was arrested at the scene for Impaired Driving. Mark HANMORE 33 years from Tay Township has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) and Operate Motor Vehicle with over 80mgs, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

On April 4, 2015 at 2:53a.m officers responded to a motor vehicle in the ditch on Rue Jules Leger in Tiny Township. When officers arrived at the scene the female driver was located and found to be under the influence of alcohol. Female Nicole Susan MCDOWELL 27 years from Tiny Township has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) and Operate Motor Vehicle with over 80mgs, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

On April 4, 2015 at 3:43p.m the Central Region Traffic Management Unit was conducting a RIDE check on Honey Harbour Road in Georgian Bay Township. The driver of a blue 2001 Toyota Echo was approaching the RIDE check in a suspicious driving manner. Officers approached the motor vehicle due to the suspicious driving habits. After further investigation, the officer found that the male driver was under the influence of alcohol. Claude KING, 45 years of age has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) and Operate Motor Vehicle with over 80mgs, contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 5, 2015 at 7:46a.m officers responded to a motor vehicle in the ditch on Robb’s Road in the Town of Penetanguishene. A witness contacted police after they approached to assist and smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath. Officers attended the scene and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. Michael David SMITH 23 years from Tiny Township has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) and Operate Motor Vehicle with over 80mgs contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The four above charged parties are to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on April 16, 2015.

On April 4, 2015 at 11:05pm officers responded to a call of a single motor vehicle collision in Tay Township. When officer’s arrived a male youth 16 years of age from Tay Township was found near the scene. Further investigation by officers revealed that the male youth was under the influence of alcohol. The male youth was charged with:

1. Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

2. Operate motor Vehicle with over 80mgs section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

3. Take Vehicle Without Consent section 335(1) of the Criminal Code

4. Fail To Comply With Disposition section 137 of Youth Criminal Justice Act

Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act the male cannot be named as he falls under the definition of a young offender. The youth was held for bail on April 5,2015 in Barrie.

The OPP are patrolling 24 hours a day for Impaired Drivers. Please make the right choice before getting into your vehicle after consuming alcohol. Call a cab, a friend or a family member for a ride. Please see the following public service announcement on drinking and driving.
