(ADELAIDE METCALFE, ON) – On Thursday, June 19, 2014, at approximately 9:40 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Adelaide Metcalfe Fire Department, the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Hydro One, responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Napperton Drive in the Municipality of Adelaide Metcalfe, ON.
As a result of the police investigation, it was determined that a 2000 Lincoln car was travelling eastbound on Napperton Drive. The car left the roadway, rolled over, and struck a hydro pole in the south ditch.
The 29 year old male driver from Strathroy Caradoc, ON, Jeffrey DAY, was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
The 27 year old female passenger from Strathroy Caradoc, ON, Michelle DAY, died in the crash, and was pronounced at the scene.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) were deployed to the scene to assist with the investigation.
A section of Napperton Drive between Kerwood Road and Brown Road was closed for the police investigation, but was reopened. Hydro was out in the area but was restored.
As a result of further police investigation, the driver has been charged with:
Impaired operation/care or control of a motor vehicle/cause death – alcohol, contrary to Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) section 255(3)
Exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content/motor vehicle/cause accident with fatality, contrary to the CCC section 255 (3.1)
Cause death by criminal negligence, contrary to the CCC section 220(b)
Possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30 grams, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) section 4(1)
The accused was released by way of a Promise to Appear, and is schedule to answer the charges in a London court on April 24, 2015.
