RIDE Stop Leads To Drug Charges

(NORTH BAY, ON) – On April 19, 2015, at approximately 3:15 a.m., members from North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. (reduced impaired driving everywhere) on Lake Nosbonsing Road in the Municipality of East Ferris. A northbound motor vehicle was stopped and, upon further investigation, over 750 grams of marihuana and a quantity of ecstasy, as well as a sum of money, was seized.

The driver of the vehicle, Perry TURCOTTE, age 24, of North Bay, has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of Trafficking – under 3 kg and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – other drugs contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, Ontario, on Thursday, May 12, 2015.

Members of the Drug Enforcement Unit and Asset Forfeiture Unit are assisting with the investigation.
