(Ottawa, ON) – April 23, 2015, The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) members were conducting a seatbelt enforcement initiative on the Maitland eastbound onramp to Highway 417.
At approximately 11:35 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle as the passenger was seen not wearing a seatbelt. During the course of the investigation, the passenger was found to be in violation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). The officer subsequently contacted Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
As a result, the 32 year old foreign national was arrested and transported to CBSA for enforcement action.
