(Prince Edward County, ON)— The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County detachment and the Prince Edward County Fire Department intend to further investigate the cause of two marsh fires that had occurred on Big Island, in the Ward of Sophiasburgh.
There have been several marsh fires at this location in recent years, two remaining unsolved. These fires occurred on March 23, 2012 and more recently on April, 11, 2015. Both fires are believed to have been intentionally set. No property was damaged nor was anyone injured. However, such a large fire presents risk to public safety and the safety of first responders.
The OPP are asking anyone with information regarding these fires to contact the Prince Edward County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
