(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:
Apr 24: (from 12noon)
– Police were called to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp residence regarding an ongoing neighbour dispute over sump pump drainage from one house causing flooding into the other home. Township officials advised that it was not a bylaw issue. Investigation by the officer continues in an attempt to resolve this dispute.
– Driver stopped in Campbellford (3:25pm) found to be disqualified from driving. The 50 yr old local man was charged accordingly
– Police investigated a complaint in the Campbellford area regarding threats made on a social media site. Both parties, who did not know each other, were cautioned by the officer about inappropriate internet use. No charges resulted.
– Impaired arrest Trent Hills, 6:30pm (see full release)
– Police investigated a complaint in Campbellford of harassment involving two females arguing over a mutual male acquaintance. No charges resulted
Apr 25:
– Police received a 911call from a female on a cell phone complaining of a male destroying property in her house and refusing to leave (5:30am). The caller became uncooperative and refused to give any information to police (names, address). She was eventually located at a Bewdley home. When officers attempted to ensure that she was safe, she swore at the officers and demanded they leave the property. No charges resulted due, in part, to the lack of cooperation afforded the officers.
– Officers conducted a spot check of vehicles entering the Brighton landfill site. As a result of this initiative, 30 vehicles were stopped resulting in three charges in relation to trailer attachments/licencing violations.
– 911 call originating from fax machine at Campbellford hospital. Ongoing issue causing the required officer response
– Trespassing calls continue to be received by police regarding fishermen on private property (Hamilton & Alnwick-Haldimand Twp)
– Family dispute in Colborne where a mother reported her 27 yr old son possibly suicidal. Officers located the man and determined that he wasn’t contemplating self-harm. He spent the night a friends to calm down after arguing with his mother over her spending more time with his siblings than him.
– Police were called to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp event for new mothers when an elderly male attended and attempted to promote his nanny service. Investigation ongoing
– Car stopped for speeding offence on Oak Ridges Dr Hamilton Twp (5:30pm). After investigation, the male driver aged 36 and his 45 yr old female passenger were both charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance: cannabis marihuana over 30g
– Police responded to a 911 call from a Roseneath home (8:30pm). When officers arrived, several intoxicated persons were present, most refusing to cooperate with police. Officers ensured things were calm and followed up with one male the next day. No charges resulted.
– Police assisted paramedics at a Brighton area home with an intoxicated 21 yr old female. She was transported to an area hospital by EMS due to her level of intoxication. No charges resulted (9:30pm)
Apr 26:
– A mother contacted police concerned for her daughter’s safety as she was involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. Officers located the 21 yr old woman at a Brighton apartment and determined that the couple were arguing over text messages she sent to another male. One partner left for the night, no charges resulted (1am)
– An intoxicated Campbellford man (21) called police requesting they assist him in picking up belongings from his ex-girlfriend (1am). Officers advised him to return tomorrow when sober, he was taken to a relative’s home for the night
– At 1:15am officers responded to the Campbellford hospital for a belligerent intoxicated male who caused a disturbance and threatened security staff when he was asked to leave. The 61 yr old Hastings man left prior to police arriving but called the emergency room several times afterwards apparently being rude to staff. The reasons for the male initially attending the hospital remains unclear however he proceeded to another part of the hospital shortly after arriving in the ambulance and demanded to see a relative. Investigation ongoing
– A Hamilton Twp resident on Canning Rd reported his mailbox burnt overnight
– A family dispute erupted near a convenience store in Campbellford between a daughter and her father. The daughter was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation ongoing
– Report of a male and female yelling and screaming in a Colborne apt. Officers determined that the couple was merely playing a video game in a boisterous manner
– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Port Hope home (5:15pm) and found the front door damaged and several smashed items inside. As a result of the investigation, a 43 yr old woman was arrested and charged with Mischief Under $5,000. She was released with conditions until her court date. Names withheld.
– Report of a possibly suicidal male near railway tracks in Brighton (8pm). Officers located the ‘train enthusiast’ who was merely taking pictures of passing trains.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated seven motor vehicle collisions and 18 traffic related complaints.
