WARNING ABOUT DANGEROUS WATER CONDITIONS
(Hawkesbury, Ontario) – Due to changing weather conditions and continued thawing of lakes and rivers, there has been a change in both water levels and water flow of lakes and rivers in the surrounding areas.
The Hawkesbury OPP Detachment is advising residents to be aware of open and fast moving water.
Rivers are moving fast with higher than normal levels, strong currents on and beneath the water surface and the water is still very cold. There is also debris floating on and below the surface of the water.
Residents should be aware of the dangers present at the edges of rivers and open water as the ground is unstable.
The OPP strongly urge adults to watch their children if they are near any body of water and to take the time to properly educate their children of the dangers of being around water.
