Upper Ottawa Valley Weekly Release

(PEMBROKE, ON) During the week of the 20th of April to the 26th of April members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 239 incidents including break and enters, domestic disputes, and motor vehicle collisions.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

During the week of the 20th of April to the 26th of April members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 13 motor vehicle collisions. 9 collisions were property damage and 4 collisions were personal injury motor vehicle collisions.

RIDE

During the week of the 20th of April to the 26th April members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment conducted 6 RIDE programs. The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or use public transit.

Shoplifting

On April 23rd police responded to a complaint of shoplifting at Rexall Pharma Plus at the Pembroke Mall in the City of Pembroke. A quantity of cologne was reported stolen. There are no suspects at this time. Police continue to investigate.

Theft

On April 26th police received a report of theft from a motor vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Petawawa. The unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and sunglasses and an article of clothing were stolen. The public is reminded to lock their unattended vehicles and to avoid leaving any valuables in their vehicles.

Break and Enter

On April 20th police responded to a report of a break and enter at a property in the City of Pembroke. A tool shed on the property was entered sometime between the 15th and 19th of April and a black 3.5hp Mercury outboard motor was stolen. The investigation is continuing.

On April 26th police received a report of a break and enter that occurred on April 23rd at a residence in the City of Pembroke. A computer and video game accessories were reported stolen. The investigation is continuing.

Domestic Disputes

During the week of the 20th of April to the 26th of April members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment investigated 10 domestic disputes. As a result,

· One adult female was charged with two counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code

· One adult male was charged with uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code

Scams

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP would like to make the public aware of a potential scam that has surfaced in the area. A local resident reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to work for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission. The caller was very aggressive and asked the complainant to provide their Social Security number, State ID, marital status, age and asked if they shopped at Walmart or Walgreens. Many of the questions pertained to U.S. citizens yet the caller claimed to be from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Investigation has revealed that the call appears to have originated from the United Kingdom. Citizens are advised against providing personal information to unknown callers and that in Ontario you do not have to pay taxes or fees to win a prize.
