Collision – 84 Year Old Driver Charged

On April the 29th 2015 at 11:05 a.m. police were dispatched to two vehicle motor vehicle collision at Calton Line and Elgin County Road 55, Municipality of Bayham.

Police attended the scene and observed a blue 2007 Honda CRV, which had been operated by an 84 year old female from the Municipality of Bayham. The vehicle had heavy front end damage and had come to rest in the intersection. A grey 2000 GMC Yukon, being operated by a 34 year old Norfolk County man had flipped onto the driver’s side and had come to rest just west of the intersection on the north shoulder. Both drivers were out of their respective vehicles and were being treated by EMS. The driver of the Yukon was later transported to hospital as a precaution. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and distracted driving was not a factor in the collision.

Investigation revealed that the Honda had been travelling north on Elgin County Road 55 and the Yukon had been travelling west on Calton Line. The intersection at that location is controlled north/south on Elgin County Road 55 at Calton Line by way of posted stop signs. The Honda failed to yield to the Yukon and proceeded through the intersection resulting in a collision.

Maria CREVITS, age 84 of Municipality of Bayham has been charged with Failing to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
