(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) spent much of the weekend patrolling the mouth of the Trent River and the Bay of Quinte.
The weekend saw an influx of fisherman in the area that had been participating in the opening weekend Walleye World Fishing Derby.
Officers spoke to well over 100 boaters and issued 15 tickets for various boating violations. The violations included missing or improper safety equipment such as lack of personal flotation devices. Officers also issued fines under the Liquor Licence Act and administered one breath test.
In two separate incidents officers also assisted boaters that were in distress and their boats were at risk of sinking. In both cases the boats were salvaged and the boaters were safe because of the actions of the officers.
Remember that Impaired Driving laws also pertain to boating.
Make safety your first priority when heading out on waterways and enjoy boating season.
