(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, May 9, 2015 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 6 near Wilcox Side Road in the Township of Georgian Bluffs in which one driver was charged with unsafe passing.
A 2006 Buick was traveling northbound on Hwy. 6 when the driver pulled out into the southbound lane to pass a farm vehicle and collided with a southbound 2008 Ford pick-up truck.
The driver of the Buick, Mary Adele ARMSTRONG, 76, of Owen Sound, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released. She was charged with Pass – Roadway Not Clear – Approaching Traffic contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The 46 year old driver of the pick-up truck and his passenger, a 8 year old boy, were not injured. They were both residents of Guelph, Ontario
Grey County OPP stress traffic safety and education in their ongoing commitment to making traveling on roadways as safe as possible and offer the following tips when encountering farm vehicles:
– Slow down and keep well back when approaching from behind. Be cautious of any upcoming turns into a farm lane or roadway.
– Passing a farm vehicle should be made to the left only – giving them a wide berth when passing.
– Wait for a safe opportunity to pass and, when finished passing, don’t stop or slow down in front of the farm vehicle. Large equipment can’t brake as quickly as a car can.
Be courteous. Good drivers share the road. Aggressive driving isn’t just unsafe – it’s against the law. To report aggressive driving, call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
