ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS Weekly Report

(ARMOUR TWP, ON) – On Monday, May 11, 2015, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the theft of a dark blue pickup truck from a Chetwynd Road residence.

While police were responding to the theft, they were informed of a motor vehicle collision involving the same vehicle. Police attended the collision that occurred on Chetwynd Road, a short distance from where it was stolen and subsequently arrested the driver, Michael THORNE, 29 of Armour Township.

The accused has been charged with the following offences:

• Driving while ability impaired, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

• Theft of motor vehicle, contrary to section 333.1 of the CC

• Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1 of the CC

• Drive while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

• Fail to report accident contrary to section 199(1) of the HTA

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound Ontario on May 28, 2015.

ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS OPP ARREST TRACTOR TRAILER

DRIVER FOR IMPARIED OPERATION

(LAURIER TWP, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint of a north bound tractor trailer on Highway 11 on Wednesday May 13, 2015 at approximately 11:20 a.m. OPP stopped the driver of the tractor trailer near Lindsay’s Hill Road and subsequently arrested the driver of the vehicle for impaired operation.

The driver, Devon CATCHPAW, 26 of St. Catharines Ontario was charged with driving while ability impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and dangerous operation, contrary to section 249(1)(a) CC. The accused was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday June 25, 2015 in Sundridge Ontario

OAKVILLE DRIVER CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF MARIHUANA

(MAGNETAWAN, ON) – On Friday, May 15, 2015, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a west bound traffic complaint on Highway 520 in the Village of Magnetawan.

Officers located the vehicle, spoke to the driver and subsequently arrested and charged Reece FEIJO, 18 of Oakville Ontario with possession of a controlled substance, marihuana, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in Sundridge Ontario.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOR CARE AND CONTROL

ON AN ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE

(KEARNEY, ON) – On Saturday May 16, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Echo Ridge Road in the Towns of Kearney, Ontario.

OPP officers spoke to the drivers of three all-terrain vehicles that were parked on the side of the road, and subsequently arrested and charged one of the drivers, Krzysztof CHROBAK, 49 of Caledon Ontario with care or control over 80 milligrams of alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) the Criminal Code (CC).

The driver was also charged with consuming liquor in other than licenced premise, residence or private place, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday June 25, 2015 in Sundridge Ontario.

OPP INVESTIGATE THEFT OF ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE

(PERRY TWP, ON) -The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of a 2004 yellow Honda TRX650 All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that was report stolen on Saturday May 16, 2015 at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Unknown person(s) entered the Star Lake Road residence garage and stole the ATV along with an orange Husqvarna chainsaw, a Honda generator and three one gallon jugs of Castrol CTX oil.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this theft should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.”

VICTORIA DAY LONG WEEKEND RESULTS

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) -The Victoria Day long weekend is traditionally one of the busiest long weekends of the year. Once again the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were busy patrolling local roads, and towns looking for aggressive behaviour.

This year between Friday May 15, 2015 and Monday May 18, 2015 OPP responded to 62 occurrences in the Almaguin Highlands area and issued a total of 102 Provincial Offences Act charges which included, speeding, driver fail to surrender licence, passenger fail to wear seat belt, careless driving, and numerous other Highway Traffic Act charges. One driver was charged with failing to produce insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act of Ontario, two people were charged with being intoxicated in a public place and three people with consuming liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. One person was charged with engaging in prohibited activity on premises, contrary to the Trespass to Property Act.
