Provincial Park Warden Gives Chase

(RONDEAU PROVINCIAL PARK, ON) – On May 17, 2015, during the Victoria Day Weekend, a Provincial Park Warden assigned to the Rondeau Provincial Park had occasion to detain a 17 year old male for the unlawful possession of fireworks in a Provincial Park.

A short time later a foot chase between the young person and the Park Warden ensued. Members of the Chatham- Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were summoned in order to offer assistance in locating the young person.

After an extensive investigation, the young person was identified and located. As a result of this investigation the young person was charged with unlawfully having liquor in a listed Park, person under 19 years- possess liquor, possession of fireworks in a Provincial Park, possession of Marihuana and escape lawful custody.

The OPP will not tolerate and show little discretion toward those who place our Provincial Parks at risk. The OPP will work closely and assist their law enforcement partners in order to ensure that our community’s Provincial Parks are a safe place for our families to visit and enjoy!
