(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 23, 2015 at approximately 4:08 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) were conducting radar speed enforcement and monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7 near Wellington Road 11 Mapleton Township.
Police observed a 1984 Chevrolet Camero travelling eastbound on Wellington Road 11 at a speed well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle slowed down and turned northbound on Concession 16 and then again accelerated away at a high rate of speed. Police were able to close some distance during the braking period as the vehicle changed direction. The officer followed the vehicle and locked it on radar at 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute.
Ryan ARNOLD age 20 of Wilmot Township has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on August 19, 2015 to answer the charge.
