(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week (Mon-Thur), here are some examples:
May 25:
– Two separate motor vehicle collisions reported on County Rd 2 at Moore Service Rd in Hamilton Twp (7:36am, 10:17am). No serious injuries resulted.
– Officers were called to a Brighton home by an elderly dementia sufferer who didn’t know where her husband had gone. Police determined that she was safe and that he was likely in town running errands as has been the case in several past calls. Alzheimer Society already providing support to the family as a result of an earlier referral made by OPP. The case worker was advised of this latest call.
– An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp house sitter reported damage to the mailbox of a Lakeport Rd home.
– A Hamilton Twp senior reported receiving a phone call advising her she had won $2.5 million and a new car. She did not give out any information to the caller, hung up and contacted police. The officer contacted the resident and confirmed that she had acted appropriately and avoided being a victim of fraud.
– Police attended a Port Hope residence in relation to theft of clothing. As a result of the investigation it was determined that during the confrontation, one participant slapped the other. A 29 yr old Port Hope man was arrested and charged with Assault. He was released with conditions until his court date in June.
May 26:
– A vehicle was stopped for speeding on Division St N in Hamilton Twp. The 43 yr old Port Hope driver was found to be a suspended driver. He was charged accordingly
– Report of illegal dumping on Lovshin Rd Hamilton Twp. Officers located the suspect and laid charges in relation to littering the highway
– Break and Entered reported to a barn on Deer Park Rd Port Hope. A 14’ aluminium boat/trailer and 9hp Johnson outboard motor were stolen
– A Percy Twp man reported his ex-wife harassing him and his pregnant girlfriend. She apparently expressed concerns over the affect it would have on their existing daughter. Officers spoke to everyone involved and provided advice. No criminal charges resulted
– An Alnwick-Haldimand homeowner called 911 to report two dead geese on his lawn. Moments later he called back to tell police that the geese were not dead, they were merely sleeping. He was advised of the proper uses for 911 by responding officers
May 27:
– Caller reported hearing someone crying in her house (4:40am). Frequent calls of this nature to this Port Hope home. The female resident was found to be experiencing hallucinations related to her mental health issues.
– A private investigator notified police that he would be working in the Brighton area for the day in the event of any suspicious persons calls
– A Hamilton Twp woman called police to report that her ex-husband was calling her names during child custody exchanges. Report taken, no further action.
– A Brighton senior suffering from dementia contacted police to report her ‘ex-husband’ taking her car. Officers determined that the woman’s husband merely went out for a coffee. Her Alzheimer Society case worker was notified for follow up with the family.
– A Campbellford tenant complained about a neighbour’s baby crying and dripping water from their deck onto hers. Officers spoke to the intoxicated woman and directed her to call her landlord.
– Report of a door open on a motor home at a Port Hope trailer business. Officers attended and closed the door which had apparently been left open during the business day
May 28:
– A Roseneath man reported hitting a deer on Oak Ridges Dr Hamilton Twp with his 2015 Chev Sonic car. The car was driveable however the deer did not survive. No injuries to the driver. (5:15am)
– A Brighton area resident called 911 to complain about his neighbour. When advised of the non-emergency phone number, he became rude and uncooperative with OPP dispatchers. Officers attended and spoke to him about the proper uses for 911. The neighbour dispute was also resolved.
– Police were called to a Lakeshore Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home by a resident who was hiding in the closet fearful of a visitor assaulting him. Several officers arrived to find that visitor running from the residence. Police spoke to all the occupants and at the request of the caller, no charges were laid against the visitor whose girlfriend lives at that address. The argument started over the caller being paid money for taking the visitor back and forth to work. Minor injuries to the caller. (3:30pm)
– Report of a male walking across the Trent River Bridge in Hastings with a bow (6:45pm). The officer did not locate the male but determined that he was likely bow fishing for carp which is a legal activity at this time of year.
– Six cows reported loose on Burnham St N in the area of Dale Rd Hamilton Twp at 10pm. Officers did not locate the animals and received no further calls.
Northumberland OPP also conducted three RIDE programs, investigated 19 motor vehicle collisions and 37 traffic related complaints.
