(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On June 1 2015, at 2:45 a.m. officers from the Blind River detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a car for a traffic violation on Causley St in Blind River. As a result of the stop and their investigation officers located an unloaded 20 gauge rifle and ammunition in the vehicle. Officers also located a small amount of a controlled substance. The three occupants were removed from the vehicle and arrested.
Charged is Kevin ALMEIDA, 19 years of age from Toronto. He is charged with the following offences:
Possession of a Controlled Substance, section 4(1) Controlled Drug and Substance Act
Unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 91(1) Criminal Code
Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, section 94 Criminal Code
Careless use of a firearm, section 86(1) Criminal Code
A 17 year old male from Toronto who can’t be named is charged with the following offences:
Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking, section 5(2) Controlled Drug and Substance Act
Unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 91(1) Criminal Code
Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, section 94 Criminal Code
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code
Fail to comply with a recognizance, section 145(3) Criminal Code (3 counts)
A 17 year old male from Toronto who can’t be named is charged with the following offences:
Possession of a Controlled Substance, section 4(1) Controlled Drug and Substance Act
Unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 91(1) Criminal Code
Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, section 94 Criminal Code
Careless use of a firearm, section 86(1) Criminal Code
All three males were held in custody and attended Sault Ste Marie for a bail hearing.
