(HALIBURTON, ON) On Thursday June 18, 2015 at approximately 3:20 pm officers from the Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a residence on County Road 121 in Minden Hills Township.
Haliburton Highlands OPP learned that an intoxicated male at the residence was in possession was in possession of a large knife and he was threatening a family member. The male also made direct threats towards police.
The officers located and arrested the male quickly securing the weapon. There were no reported injuries. As a result of the arrest, the male was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
William John STEWART, 67 of Minden Hills Township has been charged with the following:
1) Attempt to Commit Murder.
2) Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm X2.
3) Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams.
4) Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
The accused was transported to the Haliburton Highlands Detachment and was held pending a bail hearing in Lindsay on June 19, 2015.
