(DRYDEN, ON) – On June 22, 2015 at approximately 2:30 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Dryden Detachment officers along with members of the Highway Safety Division (HSD) attempted to stop a stolen motor vehicle on Highway 17, west of Vermillion Bay in Machin Township.
The vehicle would not stop for Police and a spike belt was set up on Highway 17 in Docker Township. The suspect vehicle ran over the spike and the vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder of the road. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled into the bush. Police were able to talk the driver of the vehicle into surrendering himself.
The driver, Richard HALVERSON (26 years old) of Dryden was arrested and is charged with the following offences:
1. Driving while ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 253(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
2. Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood contrary to Section 253(1) (b) of the Criminal Code.
3. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00 contrary to Section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
4. Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
5. Flight while pursued by a Peace Officer contrary to Section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
HALVERSON appeared in court in Sioux Lookout on June 22, 2015 to answer to the charges.
