Major Injuries In Hwy 23 Motorcycle Collision

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Wednesday June 24, 2015, around 10 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a collision involving a motorcycle and a car on Hwy 23 north of Line 90 (south of Palmerston).

Investigation revealed that a Yamaha motorcycle was travelling south bound on Hwy 23 in the south bound lane following a south bound Toyota Corolla. The Corolla driver slowed down behind a south bound transport truck which had slowed down due to some traffic congestion at Line 90. The motorcyclist realising he was unable to stop safely behind the Corolla, dropped his machine to the ground. The motorcyclist impacted the pavement while the motorcycle slid into the Corolla. This impact caused minor damage to the Corolla and moderate damage to the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The 77 year old female driver of the Corolla, a resident of Wellington North Twp. was uninjured.

The motorcyclist, David BROWN (54) of the Town of Minto has been charged with “careless driving”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Highway 23 was closed for approximately half an hour to allow for the safe removal of the vehicles and clean-up of the debris.
