(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have concluded their Canada Day “long weekend” traffic initiative which took place on our local roadways, waterways and trails from June 26th to July 1st. OPP Detachment officers focused on the “The Big 4” which, in terms of personal injury collision causation, are distracted driving, lack of occupant restraint, impaired driving and aggressive driving – which includes speeding, following too closely and unsafe lane changes.
Over the course of the initiative Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers laid several charges including 65 speeding charges, 17 distracted driving charges, 13 seatbelt charges and 10 hazardous moving violation charges. The 17 distracted driving charges laid by the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers led all OPP detachments in the East Region.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment Commander Mark Wolfe praised the officers who supported the traffic safety initiative by saying, “their dedication and effort was a contributing factor in keeping our roadways safe over the holiday period”.
