Two Arrested For Racist And Homophobic Graffiti In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Two males have been arrested and charged in connection to the recent graffiti occurrences that have taken place in the Town of Goderich. The first discovery of graffiti occurred on June 30, 2015 when police were notified of offensive graffiti damage to two buildings located on Suncoast Drive and a third building located nearby on Huron Road.

On Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 7:30 a.m. Huron OPP officers were notified by a Town of Goderich employee of another case of fresh overnight graffiti damage. The exterior walls of the Rotary Cove Wheelhouse and the newly refurbished stairs leading from the Rotary Cove up to Lakeside Drive had been defaced with vulgar and obscene messages.

As a result of some public assistance and further police investigation investigators were able to identify two suspects. Late Sunday evening Huron OPP officers located and arrested an adult male suspect in a woodlot located just east of Goderich. A search incident to arrest revealed the male had two pellet guns concealed in his waistband.

Earlier this morning police arrested the second involved male. The young person attended the Huron OPP Detachment where he was charged and subsequently released from custody.

Jaiden CLARK-MCKNIGHT, 19 years of age from Goderich has been charged with:

· Mischief Over $5,000

· Four Counts of Mischief Under $5,000

· Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

· Carrying a Concealed Weapon

He remains in custody with a video court appearance scheduled for July 7, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

A 14 year old young person from Central Huron has also been charged. He has been charged with four counts of Mischief Under $5,000 and one count of Mischief Over $5,000. He has been released from custody with a first appearance date scheduled for August 13, 2015 at Youth Justice Court – Goderich.
