Barricaded Person Call Ends With Numerous Charges

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to an incident at a Norfolk Street South, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at approximately 3:46 p.m., police were called to an address out of safety concerns for a resident who barricaded himself inside a home.

Through investigation it was determined that a male became involved in a verbal altercation earlier in the day which then turned into a physical confrontation with an edged weapon. Police were called to a Culver Street, Norfolk County, Ontario address at approximately 2:56 p.m. however the male fled prior to police arrival.

The male was located at a Norfolk Street South, address and due to weapons being involved in the incident, members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Canine Services Unit along with a Crisis Negotiator attended to assist.

At approximately 10:20 p.m., a 34 year old male was taken into custody by members of the Tactics and Rescue Unit without incident.

As a result of investigation, 34-year-old Derrick Anthony ADAMS of Hamilton, Ontario has been charged with the following offences.

Utter threats to cause death or bodily harm X2

Assault with a weapon X3

Assault cause bodily harm

Assault X4

Cruelty to animals X2

Mischief Under $5000 X2

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the
