Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:

July 6:

– A resident on Ganaraska Rd Port Hope reported several wheel nuts loosened on his vehicles. Investigation ongoing

– Campbellford & District High School reported damage to the turf of the football field. Investigation ongoing

– Roseneath Centennial Public School reported damage to siding and graffiti since the end of school. Investigation ongoing

– Police attended the area of Telephone Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for a 911 call at 1pm. Officers patrolled the area and did not find the source of the call which was registered to a cell phone from Jamaica

– A resident on Maple Cr Hamilton Twp reported both of his vehicle licence plates stolen sometime overnight. Ont. Lic. # AH47644

July 7:

– Report of a red pickup truck in the ditch on Lawson Settlement Rd Brighton led to the driver, a 35 yr old local man, being charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance: cannabis marihuana under 30g. He was released with impending court date.

– Report of a dog left in a van at the Campbellford Medical Centre. The van had left the lot prior to police arrival. The caller obtained a licence plate # which assisted officers in locating the owner who was cautioned for her actions

– Police were called to a King St W Colborne residence at 6:20pm where two males were fighting outside. Officers determined that the dispute was consensual in nature with alcohol being a contributing factor. No charges

– An alert Hamilton Twp man contacted police after receiving a call from a man claiming to be from ‘Revenue Canada’ demanding payment for taxes owed. No information was given to the man who spoke with an East Indian accent.

July 8:

– Police were contacted by a concerned citizen on Tucker Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp who had located a disoriented senior and his car at 5:18am. Officers spoke to the Kleinburg resident and determined that he was suffering from dementia like symptoms and was lost. Family members were contacted and came to pick him up. He had been missing since 10am yesterday.

– A Colborne resident contacted police at 9:49am to remove an intoxicated house guest who refused to leave. The 59 yr old Peterborough area man was held by police until he sobered up

– Police attended the area of Wicklow Beach Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for a 911 call at 3:49pm. Officers patrolled the area and did not find the source of the call which was registered to a cell phone from Jamaica

– Police responded to a report of a Warkworth man threatening self-harm. Officers located the uninjured man, offered him counselling and contacted a family member to attend.

– A Hamilton Twp landlord contacted police after receiving threats from an evicted tenant. A 43 yr old local woman was arrested and charged with Uttering Threats X2. She was released with an impending court date. Names withheld

July 9:

– A 68 yr old Campbellford woman was charged with Careless Driving on Bridge St W Campbellford when she mounted a curb and damaged a lawn in her 2013 turquoise Honda Fit. It is unknown what caused the loss of control.

– Cottage owner on Clarke Island near Campbellford reported the theft of several items from her front porch including a ‘John Deere tractor bell’

– A Campbellford senior was contacted by a man claiming to be a bank official conducting an internal investigation into theft from her account. He requested that she go and withdraw $500 from her account and not tell anyone that she was doing this. The woman became suspicious and contacted police. No money was lost.

– 911 dialed accidentally (twice) by a child in Percy Twp 5:36pm

– 911 pocket dialed by a Brighton resident 5:37pm

– 911 dialed accidentally by a Brighton resident 6:25pm

– Police are investigating damage to the stop sign on the corner of Canrobert Street and Bridge Street West in Campbellford. Police are seeking witnesses to the incident which occurred at 8:10pm. A black pickup truck was observed to drive over the sign then fled the scene. The driver is described as a white male in his 50s with a slim build. Northumberland OPP also conducted eight RIDE programs, investigated five motor vehicle collisions and 32 traffic related complaints.
