(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 25-year-old Malahide Township man with impaired driving after he was involved in a collision yesterday afternoon July 12th, 2015.
The single motor vehicle collision occurred around 12:30pm on Imperial Rd. and Sparta Line, Malahide Township. A red 1999 Volkswagen car was travelling north on Imperial Rd. when it crossed over the centre line almost colliding with an oncoming vehicle. The Volkswagen then travelled back into the northbound lane and off the roadway colliding with a large tree.
The driver and lone occupant of the Volkswagen was transported to hospital as a precaution. Investigation revealed that the driver of the Volkswagen was impaired. As a result Heinrich, SCHMITT, age 25 of Malahide Township has been charged with;
Impaired Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.
Operating a Motor Vehicle Over the Legal Limit contrary to the Criminal Code.
SCHMITT was later released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in St. Thomas criminal court on July 28th, 2015.
