Male Arrested After Evading Police

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) A 22 year old Toronto man was arrested after evading a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on July 12, 2015. Just after 8:00 p.m., the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on an Acura car for a speed violation on Highway 401 eastbound, near Comber Side Road.

The driver did not stop and fled from the officer. The vehicle was observed exiting the highway at Queens Line and later re-entered Highway 401 traveling eastbound. Chatham-Kent OPP officers located the vehicle and performed a rolling block maneuver in order to safely bring the vehicle to a stop. The suspect vehicle made contact with the police vehicle before coming to a stop in the centre median near Charing Cross Road.

The driver, Abdullahi-Sheik ALI, has been charged with the following:

· Dangerous Operation Of A Motor Vehicle, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Flight While Pursued By Peace Officer, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Possession Property Obtained By Crime Under $5000

· Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

· Possess Illegal Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

· Use Plate Not Authorized For Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

· Fail To Apply For Permit On Becoming Owner, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

· Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

· Operate Motor Vehicle No Insurance, under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

He is scheduled to appear in a Chatham Court on August 11, 2015, to answer to the charges.

The suspect vehicle sustained moderate damage. The police vehicle sustained minor damage.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
