(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On July 11, 2015 at approximately 2:24 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Highway 7 at the Woolwich-Guelph-Eramosa Townline in Guelph-Eramosa Township. Officers investigated driver of a 2010 Subaru that entered the checkpoint while driving erratically. Officers detected the odour of alcohol on his breath and believed that his ability to operate a motor vehicle maybe impaired by the consumption of alcohol. The driver failed the Standard Field Sobriety tests (SFST) at the scene. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
21-year-old Nigel MCGEE of Guelph has been charged with Impaired and Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 31, 2015 to answer to his charges.
