(POWASSAN, ON) –The Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to alert drivers of a moose that is wandering around Highway 11 between Watson Road and the weigh scales, Municipality of Callander. On July 11, 2015, a calf was hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 11 near the weigh scales, and the mother is looking for her calf.
There are a number of precautions motorists can do to help avoid a collision with an animal. They include constantly scanning the road ahead from shoulder to shoulder, reducing your speed when you observe an animal and using high beams at night to help look for animals. When you see an animal on the highway, stop your vehicle and let them cross, never assume they will move out of the way.
