(PEMBROKE, ON) During the week of the 06th of July to the 12th of July members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 334 incidents including mischief, thefts, domestic disputes, and motor vehicle collisions.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
During the week of the 06th of July to the 12th of July members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 23 motor vehicle collisions. 22 collisions were property damage collisions and 1 was a personal injury collision.
RIDE
During the week of the 06th of July to the 12th of July members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment conducted 9 RIDE programs. The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or use public transit.
Breach of Recognizance
On July 7th police conducted a compliance check of man who was bound by a recognizance with a curfew. It was found the man had breached the curfew and a warrant was sought for his arrest. On July 9th the male was located, arrested, and held for a bail hearing. As a result 38 year old James Clayton WHITE of Pembroke is charged with Failing to Comply with his Recognizance.
Assault with a Weapon
On July 6th police responded to an assault call at an apartment building in the City of Pembroke. The suspect broke into the apartment and assaulted the male victim with a bat over a dispute regarding money. The suspect also damaged property within the apartment and was found to be breaching his probation. The victim received minor injuries. As a result 49 year old Anthony CASHIN of Pembroke is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Assault with a Weapon
· Break and Enter with Intent
· Mischief Under $5000
· Breach of Probation
CASHIN was held for a bail hearing.
Drug Offences
On July 09th police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the City of Pembroke. Police discovered a quantity of drugs in the vehicle and as a result 24 year old Ryan ADAM of Pembroke is charged with Possession of a Schedule III Substance – Psilocybin – contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). ADAM was released on an appearance notice.
Shoplifting
On July 09th police were called to Walmart in Laurentian Valley Township due to a report of a female shoplifter stealing clothes. Police attended and as a result 32 year old Trudy GAGNON of Waltham, Que is charged with Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code. GAGNON was released on an appearance notice.
Bribery
On July 11th police conducted a traffic stop in the City of Pembroke. Police determined there was a violation under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) and the male vehicle owner/driver offered a sum of money to police to avoid prosecution. The male was arrested due to the bribe and became threatening and violent towards police. As a result Matthew David CASEY, age 24 of Pembroke, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Bribery of Officers
· Assaulting a Peace Officer
· Uttering Threats
· Breach of Probation
CASEY was held for a bail hearing on the criminal charges.
CASEY was also charged under the CAIA for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
Mischief
On July 10th a report of mischief to a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup was received. The truck was parked overnight on Station Hill Rd. in Laurentian Valley Township. When the owner returned to the pickup it was discovered on of the tires had been slashed and there was damage to the transmission and air conditioning unit. The investigation is continuing.
Theft
On July 7th water sports equipment was reported stolen from the shoreline of a Laurentian Hills water front residence. Stolen were a brown kayak paddle and a green and white Stand Up Paddle board. There are no suspects at this time.
On July 7th police received a report that a quantity of copper wire had been stolen from the Hydro One compound on Sandy Beach Road in Laurentian Valley Township. The suspect(s) accessed the copper wire by cutting the fence. The wire is valued at approximately $1000.00. The investigation is continuing.
Domestic Disputes
During the week of the 06th of July to the 12th of July members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment investigated 17 domestic disputes. As a result,
· One adult male was charged with Failing to Comply with a Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code.
· One adult male was charged with Criminal Harassment and Assault contrary to the Criminal Code
