Melanie STURGEON – Drunk Driving, Drugs, etc

(CHIPPEWAS OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – On July 12, 2015, at approximately 4:27 p.m., the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign at Chippewas Road and Middlemiss Drive.

With assistance from the Munsee-Delaware Police, officers initiated a traffic stop of the black Dodge car, and the vehicle stopped in a private laneway.

Police determined the female driver had been drinking alcohol. She was arrested and transported to a Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment for breath tests.

As a result of the police investigation, 24-year-old Melanie STURGEON, of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol and drug), and driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She was further charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine, and possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30 grams.

The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear, and is scheduled to answer the charges in a London court on August 28, 2015.
