Public Helps Find Fleeing Motorcyclist

(SMITHS FALLS, ON) – The Highway Enforcement Team of East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) successfully located a speeding motorcyclist on Highway 401 west of Brockville with assistance from concerned citizens.

OPP officers received a complaint of a speeding motorcyclist on Highway 401 east of Mallorytown. Officers observed the speeder and confirmed with radar that he was driving at an excessive speed. Officers activated emergency lights to stop the driver. He was seen weaving in and out of traffic in an attempt to evade police. The male driver exited at the Mallorytown On Route rest stop. He tried to hide his motorcycle in the nearby woods and fled on foot. Members of the public assisted the officers in locating the male driver and he was arrested. Thomas SIWANOWICZ 28 of Richmond Ont. is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police while being pursued, stunt driving – speeding at 170km/hr. in a posted 100 km/hr. zone, and driving a motor vehicle without a licence. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Brockville on August 28.
