(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 24, 2015, Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were kept busy responding to three separate collisions that occurred on Highway 401. Two of those collisions involved injuries.
The first collision occurred just after 11:00 a.m., on Highway 401 eastbound near the Tilbury On Route Service Centre. The driver of a Chevrolet car attempted to make a lane change as she entered the construction zone, and struck a tractor trailer and a guard rail. No injuries were reported. The 66-year-old female driver from Windsor, Sandra HEBERT, has been charged with Unsafe Lane Change, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Just after 2:30 p.m., officers attended at a collision involving three vehicles, on Highway 401 eastbound, near the same location as the first collision. The collision occurred when a tractor trailer struck the rear of another tractor trailer that was stopped in the construction zone. The collision caused the stopped tractor trailer to strike the rear of a Dodge Caravan that was stopped ahead of it. Two female occupants from the van, a 17-year-old and a 48-year-old, both from Windsor, were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 47-year-old driver of the tractor trailer, Balwinder NAGPAL, from Mississauga, has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The third collision occurred on Highway 401 westbound near Victoria Road, just before 11:30 p.m. A Toyota minivan lost control and rolled into the north ditch. Two males from the van were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 41-year-old driver from Chatham, Shelly SAKHUJA, has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
